25 YEARS AGO — 1985
•  Sub-zero temperatures and high winds frustrate scores of area firefighters during a blaze that destroys the India Glass and Mirror Co. plant in Irona. Hassan Ali started the business more than 20 years before.

•  Police and fire investigators sift through the charred remains of a Plattsburgh commercial building. The fire gutted Plattsburgh Supply Co. and two floors of upstairs offices at 100 Margaret St.

•  New York and Vermont governors formally announce an agreement to build a new toll-free bridge over Lake Champlain at Rouses Point and to seek an end of tolls on the Lake Bridge at Crown Point.

•  A Brockway Air official says the North Country's commuter air service would be seriously affected if the federal government ends subsidies to airlines serving small communities.

50 YEARS AGO — 1960
•  Northway construction remains one of the question marks for 1960. It'll probably stay that way until the state finds out how much the Federal Bureau of Roads appropriates.

•  The Keeseville Central School Board of Education float the final $70,000 bond issue to pay for the new elementary school. The district's net bonded indebtedness is $705,526.

•  Some mountain roads are snowbound as the result of high winds that moved snow. Routes 374 and 453 in Chazy Lake and Route 11 from Ellenburg to Malone were affected.

•  With a belated January thaw in mid-February scattered minor flooding is reported. One was on Route 9, one mile north of New Russia. The other was above Upper Jay.

75 YEARS AGO — 1935
•  The boldest escape in the annuals of the Clinton County Jail occurs when four desperados in Dillinger fashion poke a loaded revolver into the ribs of the night turnkey, take his keys and after locking him in the jail, flee through the kitchen of the sheriff's home. Two were captured in a few minutes, the others about 15 hours later.

•  Fire for a time threatened to wipe out the little town of North Banger, five miles west of Malone. Before the fire was subdued by the Malone, Moira and North Bangor fire departments, it had leveled a business block, two houses and threatened to destroy St. Augustine's Church.

•  Fire believed to have been caused by a defective chimney destroys the Idle Hurst tourist inn in Moriah with the loss estimated at $15,000. The inn was built in 1906 or 1907 by George D. Sherman of the Witherbee-Sherman Co. at a cost of $40,000.

•  The New York and Pennsylvania Co.'s mill at Willsboro is now operating on a six-day-a-week basis. For sometime it was on a five-day schedule.

100 YEARS AGO — 1910
•  The worst snowstorm of the season drops between 15 and 18 inches of snow. The train from the south was nearly five hours behind schedule due to the heavy snow to the south.

•  The Clinton Telephone Co. arranges with the trustees of the Champlain Valley Hospital for installation in that institution of a complete telephone service connecting various departments of the building as well as furnishing service to the general public.

•  The enlisted men at Plattsburgh Barracks are paid off, more than $12,000 being distributed among them for their January pay.

•  A petition is circulated requesting the Delaware and Hudson Railroad Co. to build a new station at Dannemora.
