Several area students have been recognized for accomplishments at St. Lawrence University, Canton.

Jared J. Pellerin of Plattsburgh and McCayla A. Quinn of Saranac Lake studied in England last fall. Pellerin is a graduate of Seton Catholic Central School in Plattsburgh. Quinn graduated from Saranac Lake High School.

Amber J. Rice of Peru has been inducted into St. Lawrence University's chapter of Pi Mu Epsilon, the national mathematics honorary society. Rice graduated from Beekmantown Central School.

Anna J. Meisenheimer of Plattsburgh has been selected for membership into the St. Lawrence University chapter of Psi Chi, the national psychology honorary society. She graduated from Seton Catholic Central School in Plattsburgh.



Lindsay Boulerice and Joshua Lashway, both of Ellenburg Depot, were chosen to receive scholarships for 2009 from the Catholic Daughters of the Americas Court Little Rose 1300. Boulerice is the daughter of Thomas and Sandra Boulerice and is attending the College of St. Rose in Albany, studying pre-med. Lashway is the son of Dennis Lashway and Christina Danussi and is attending St. Lawrence University, studying government/pre-law. Both are graduates of Northern Adirondack Central School in Ellenburg.



The Chateaugay Central School Alumni Fund awarded two $500 scholarships to Cassandra Johnson and Todd Stubbs.

Johnson is the daughter of Mike King of Chateaugay. She was a member of the cast for the senior play, "Yard Sale," and attends North Country Community College as an English major, hoping to pursue a career in writing.

Stubbs, son of Tom Broadie of Churubusco and Kathy McKenna of Chateaugay, participated in CYO basketball and also attends NCCC as a liberal arts major.

Carly Jean Hyatt and Colette Elizabeth Lou Hyatt, daughters of Dan and Melody Hyatt of Moriah, received degrees from Union College.

Carly earned a Bachelor of Science degree in biology with a minor in the classics, cum laude. A 2005 graduate of Moriah Central School, she was also named to the dean's list, was a member of Eta Sigma Phi National Honor Society and received departmental honors in biology. She has been accepted to Albany Medical College into the physician assistant program.

Colette, also a 2005 graduate of Moriah Central School, received a Bachelor of Science degree in biology with a minor in the classics and a second minor in psychology. She was also named to the dean's list, was a member of Eta Sigma Phi National Society, Psi Chi Honor Society and received departmental honors in biology. She has been accepted into the Union College graduate program in bioethics.

Three area students have been awarded scholarships from the PSI Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Society. Winners of the Alice K. Lewis Scholarships are Christa White of Plattsburgh, Victoria Menard of Chazy and Lori Richards of Peru.

The three winners have demonstrated academic and professional promise in the pursuit of preparation to enter the teaching profession. Each received $750.



The Plattsburgh Public Library Board of Trustees chose several area residents as winners in their 2009 Quadricentennial Essay Contest with the topic "What is the significance of Lake Champlain throughout history and today?' In the high-school category, first prize of $400 was presented to Kelly Chillari, grade 12; second prize of $300 was won by Una Creedon-Carey, grade 10; third prize of $200 was given to Savannah Moore, grade 12. Hannah Saiz, Katelyn Cross and Bridget Mundy, all grade 12, each received honorable mention. In the middle-school category, first prize of $400 went to Mile Sapp, grade 8; second prize of $300 was won by Francesca D'Alessandro, grade 8; third prize of $200 went to Theo Gardner-Puschak, grade 6. Grevor Cronce, grade 8, Pascal Spronk, grade 6, and Jake Messner, grade 8, were each awarded honorable mention.



Jillian E. Kowalowski of Peru Central School and Cody Weaver of Beekmantown Central School have each been awarded $500 scholarships from the Moose Lodge 2390, Plattsburgh.



P. Alex Comeau of Essex has been awarded a University Fellowship at St. Lawrence University in Canton, which allowed him to pursue independent study on campus during the summer with assistance from a faculty mentor. A 2006 graduate of Plattsburgh High School and a member of the 2011 graduating class at St. Lawrence. He is a fine arts major.

The following students have been named to the Dean's List at the University at Albany: Gregg Castellucci, Arthur "A.J." Ford, Lauren Grady, Bradley Hansen, Emily Higgins, Rachel Luscombe, Bryan Marlow, Kenneth Meese, Bianca Milot, Nicole Newton and Bithika Sarmaroy, all of Plattsburgh; Karl Bechard of Rouses Point; Chris Besson and Bridget Streeter, both of Ticonderoga; Brittany Brockway of Lake Clear, Hannah Gardiner of Chateaugay, Corine Giroux and Kaleigh Rasco, both of Chazy; Eithne McCarthy of Champlain; Phalon Nolan of Keeseville; and Noelle Whitney of Peru.

Renee Bannon of Malone received the University at Albany Dean's Commendation, which is the Dean's List for part-time students.
