College to host hundreds on Family Weekend

PLATTSBURGH — More than 600 parents and family members are expected to be on campus during Plattsburgh State’s annual Family Weekend Sept. 21 to 23.

Friday is the deadline to register to take part.

In addition to giving students the chance to show off their new home, Family Weekend highlights much of what the university has to offer.

“It’s definitely a big weekend on campus,” Cori Jackson, director of campus activities in student activities and volunteerism, said in a news release.

Michael Cashman, assistant director of campus activities said: “Students can bring their parents to local places they like or go apple picking or go to Burlington or take a day trip to Montreal. They can participate in a coffeehouse or hear the Gospel Choir perform.”

In addition, there will be a pancake breakfast; 3-mile fun run and walk; ice skating in the Field House with mascot Burghy; late-night weekend activities such as trivia and bingo; and the popular Dueling Pianos show, among other activities, Cashman said.

New this year will be a Lake Champlain boat tour.

While freshmen and their families traditionally make up the majority of those who register for the weekend, it’s open to all students and their families. Several of the planned activities require tickets and sell out quickly, Jackson noted.

Information is available online at www.plattsburgh.edu/studentlife/familyweekend/ or call 564-4830.
