Carnival continues with weekday events

SARANAC LAKE — A scavenger hunt for kids, snowshoe and broomball competitions are among the events still to come during the Saranac Lake Winter Carnival.

Here’s a look at the schedule:

TODAY

3:30 p.m.: Scavenger Hunt for middle-school students, Saranac Lake Youth Center.

5:30 p.m.: Grand Marshal Reception, Elks Lodge 1508.

6:30 p.m.: Royalty Dinner, Elks Lodge 1508, (reservations were required by Feb. 1).

WEDNESDAY

6 p.m.: Curtis Lumber Snowshoe Races, Dewey Mountain, 891-2697.

8:15 p.m.: Firemen’s Broomball, Saranac Lake Civic Center.

THURSDAY

Noon: “Tales of the Sea,” Saranac Laboratory Museum, Historic Saranac Lake.

2:30 to 6:30 p.m.: 24th-annual Winter Book Sale, Saranac Lake Free Library.

6 p.m.: Torchlight Skiing followed by fireworks, Mount Pisgah Ski Center.

7 p.m.: “So Dreams the Sea: Odes from the Deep,” a literary celebration, Luna Java Coffee House).

FRIDAY

10 a.m.: Adirondack Bank Innertube Races, Mount Pisgah.

10 a.m. to 4 p.m.: 24th-annual Winter Book Sale, Saranac Lake Free Library.

12:30 p.m.: First Niagara Children’s Skating Races, Saranac Lake Civic Center.

6 p.m.: Downtown Saranac Lake Outdoor Movie Night, Berkley Green.

7:30 p.m.: Rotary Club Variety Show, Harrietstown Town Hall, $13 advance, $20 at the door.

SATURDAY

8:30 to 11 a.m.: Masons Pancake Breakfast, Saranac Lake Adult Center, sponsored by Whiteface Mountain Lodge 789 Masonic Temple.

10 to 11 a.m.: Meet the carnival characters, Ice Palace.

10 a.m.: Snow Rugby Game sponsored by Can-Am Rugby, Petrova School Athletic Field.

10 a.m. to 4 p.m.: 24th-annual Winter Book Sale, Saranac Lake Free Library.

10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.: Lion’s Club Chili Sale, Harrietstown Town Hall.

11 a.m.: Paul Smith’s College Woodsmen’s Exhibition, Riverside Park.

Noon to 4 p.m.: Paul Smith’s College Alumni Reunion, Sears parking lot.

Noon: Parade lineup, Lake Colby Drive.

1 p.m.: Gala Parade, Broadway and Main Street from Ampersand Avenue to Lapan Highway, followed by Parade Band Concert, Harrietstown Town Hall.

7:30 p.m.: Pendragon Theatre, “Terra Nova,” call 891-9052.

SUNDAY

10 a.m.: Casella Waste Adult X-C Skiing, Dewey Mountain, call 891-2697.

11 a.m.: Bionique Snowflake Volleyball Tournament, Saranac Lake Civic Center Rotary Field.

3 p.m.: 18th-annual Winter Carnival Baroque Concert, Methodist Church, sponsored by the Saranac Lake Young Arts Association.

7:30 p.m.: Cape Air/American Management Association Carnival Slide Show, Ice Palace.

8 p.m. – Guide Boat Realty Storming the Palace Fireworks Display, Ice Palace.

THURSDAY, FEB. 14

2 and 7:30 p.m.: Post-Carnival Cape Air Slide Show, Saranac Village at Will Rogers.
