PLATTSBURGH — Two local women are organizing a 40 Days for Life campaign in the North Country.

Nancy Belzile and Margaret Smith told the audience at the Champlain Valley Right for Life's 36th annual March for Life that the event will take place from Feb. 17 to March 28.

It is being held in about 200 cities across the country. Volunteers are asked to join in 40 days of prayer and fasting, constant vigil at the Planned Parenthood office in Plattsburgh and community outreach.

An information sheet provided states some locations have reported up to a 28-percent drop in abortions and hundreds of new pro-life supporters.

Volunteers are asked to sign up for at least one hour of prayer vigil at Planned Parenthood. The goal is to have at least an hour of vigil on each of the 40 days of Lent.

Fasting can be as simply as refraining from eating one type of food. Outreach will consist of taking a positive, upbeat pro-life message to every corner of Plattsburgh through media efforts, church presentations, petition drives and public visibility.

For more information, call Belzile at 593-6024 or Smith at 963-7814. Volunteers can also sign up at www.40daysforlife.com/plattsburgh.
