BLOOMINGDALE — Several residents here awoke to a glow in the sky early Saturday after a seasonal camp went up in flames.
“They just saw a glow and at first thought it was a wildland fire,” Bloomingdale Fire Department First Lieutenant Danielle Akey said later Saturday.
Soon, neighbors on Rock Street realized the glow wasn’t from a brush fire, but a nearby camp owned by an out-of-town family.
“It was completely involved when we got there,” Akey said.
“It was a complete loss.”
The fire was reported at 2:24 a.m. and brought out crews from the Bloomingdale, Saranac Lake, Paul Smith-Gabriels and AuSable Forks fire departments.
Volunteers were able to quell the flames but could not save the camp.
They remained at the camp for several hours through the morning working to douse the blaze.
The owners, who have not been identified, had apparently been staying at the camp but left to return home Friday night.
They have been notified about the fire, Akey said.
No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
No additional information was immediately available.
