Joshua Giddings of Keeseville has been named to the Dean's List at Herkimer County Community College for the Spring 2011 semester.

Kara Stark of Plattsburgh, a junior accountancy major, was named to the President's List for the fall 2010 semester at Bentley University, Waltham, Mass.

The Dean's Award was presented to Peri Fluger, Esq., of Harrisburg, Pa., who passed the Pennsylvania bar exam in February. He is the son of Ian and Liz Fluger of Saranac Lake.

Christopher M. Briddell, a junior dual aeronautical and mechanical engineering major at Clarkson University in Potsdam, has been named to the Dean's List for the spring 2011 term. He is a member of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics and Design Build & Fly Student Clubs and a DJ at the university's student-run radio station WTSC.

Briddell, son of Kathleen Garrant Dupraw and Charles Briddell and grandson of Donald and Mary Garrant, is a 2008 graduate of Saranac High School and will be a member of Clarkson University's class of 2012.

The following students have graduated from Clarkson University: Lindsy M. Chatland of Plattsburgh, James R. Moseley of Chazy, Jaimee E. Morrissey of Crown Point, Robert T. Hall of Keene Valley, Anthony M. Harvey of Morrisonville, Nicolas J. Letourneau of Rouses Point and Joshua M. Snell of Saranac.

Megan Reymore of Vermontville, a student at the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry, Syracuse, was named as the recipient of the 2011-2012 Nan Dorr Memorial Scholarship.

The scholarship was established to honor Grace "Nan" Dorr and the Garden Club. The scholarship is given to support deserving undergraduate landscape architecture students, with preference given to the children or grandchildren of active members of the Syracuse Garden Club.

Reymore is a junior in the college's five-year landscape architecture program.

Elmira College has released its Dean's List for Academic Acievement for the Winter 2011 Term. The Dean's List students are: Mary Kwarta of West Chazy, daughter of Robert and Diane Kwarta; Laura Bolan of Newcomb, the daughter of Kevin and Denise Bolan; Shay Mailloux of Chateaugay, the daughter of Dianne and Brian Mailloux; Lynn Leach of Chateaugay, daughter of Bruce & Susan Leach; Chelsea McKiernan of Moriah, daughter of Valerie Mildon and and Michael McKeiman.

For the second year in a row, SUNY Plattsburgh's student-run newspaper Cardinal Points was awarded first place for best sports coverage from the New York Press Association.

According to their comments, the judges gave the award for the sports section's well-planned and organized organized distinct centerpieces, making note of the variety of sports coverage.

The independent weekly also received first place for best news story, written by Editor-in.-Chief Matt Rosenberg. The article, titled "Campus mourns death of international student," outlined the tragic story of a a SUNY Plattsburgh international student who was struck by a tractor-trailer while riding his bike at the intersection of Route 3 and the Exit 37 ramp off I-87 in Plattsburgh.

Staff photographer Jeff Carpenter received a third-place award for his photo of the Cardinals softball team celebrating a win. The judge commended the photographer's ability to capture good expressions and a clean background.

Staff writer Kris Fiore was awarded third place for column-writing, specifically for the articles "Boycott SA election to protest wasting money" and "3 simple words men avoid telling other men."

The following Ithaca College students received awards from the college's School of Health Sciences and Human Performance in May: Kyle Devins, a Peru resident, received the Professional Excellence Award in AT; and Darcie Black, a Plattsburgh resident, received the Academic Excellence Award.

The following students received awards at Moving-Up Day ceremonies held at St. Lawrence University, in Canton: Benjamin P. LeBlanc of Saranac Lake was an Omicron Delta Kappa inductee; Elle M. Rathbun of Plattsburgh, was presented with the Edward and Gertrude Warner Memorial; Emily D. Roy of Lake Placid, was an Omicron Delta Kappa inductee; Jordan D. Spiegel of Chazy, was presented the John W. Hannon Jr. Honors Award.

Lisa Marie Raymond of Keene has been named to the President's List at Herkimer County Community College for the Spring 2011 semester.

Megan McCullough

Georgianna Rickard, daughter of Buzzy and Anne Rickard of Lake Placid, has been selected to participate in the prestigious New York State Summer School of the Arts School of Orchestral Studies. She will be performing on the violin in this program which allows students the opportunity to study with members of the world-renowned Philadelphia Orchestra. Students in the program will be residing at Skidmore College for four weeks during July and August. The culminating student performance will occur at the outdoor amphitheater of the famed Saratoga Performing Arts Center.

Rickard began playing the violin at age 6. She attended the Suzuki Violin Institute for many summers at Ithaca College, and has attended music camp at the Eastman School of Music, Southern Maine String Academy and the Summer Youth Music program in New Hampshire. In addition to attending the School of Orchestral Studies this summer, Rickard will be attending Crane Youth Music for her third summer and will be studying piano. She has been taking piano lessons with Mrs. Debbie Fitts for 11 years and for 2 years from Dr. Kathryn Koscho at the Crane School of Music.

Megan K. McCullough has been named to the Dean's List at William Smith College (Geneva, NY) for the spring semester 2011. This distinction is bestowed upon those students of each class whose cumulative grade point average is 3.50 or higher and have completed four full credit courses for the academic semester. McCullough is the daughter of Mark and Deena McCullough of Plattsburgh, granddaughter of Rod and Dodie Giltz of Plattsburgh and a 2010 graduate of Emma Willard School in Troy.

The State University of New York at Potsdam recently honored students who excelled academically in the Spring 2011 semester, by naming 880 students to the President's List.

Paige Devlin of Lake Placid received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Whitman College in Walla Walla, Wash., at the 2011 Commencement Ceremony.

Tyler J. Richards of Rouses Point was named to the Dean's List for the spring 2011 semester at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Va. Richards is a senior majoring in finance in the Pamplin College of Business.

Alexis S. Tavano of Plattsburgh was among students invited to join honorary business society of Benedictine University, Lisle, Ill., chapter of Sigma Beta Delta and participate in induction ceremonies. Tavano will graduate from the Moser College of Adult and Professional Studies program.

Kelsey Defayette, daughter of Sharon Defayette of Burke and Andy Defayette, Knoxville, Tenn., was named to the fall 2010 and spring 2011 Dean's Lists at St. John Fisher College in Rochester. She graduated with a degree in biology and a minor in chemistry and international studies.

Defayette, a 2007 graduate of Chateaugay Central School, completed her fall 2010 semester in Botswana, Africa.

A Best Buy @ 15 Scholarship has been awarded to Stephen Witkiewicz, a student at Northern Adirondack Central School. He is the son of Rob Witkiewicz and Sue Leclerc. Witkiewicz plans to attend Johns Hopkins University for the 2011-2012 academic year.

Alec M. Currier of Peru was named to the Dean's List for the spring 2011 semester at Alfred University. He is a junior in the College of Business.

Currier, a graduate of Peru High School, is the son of William and Lynn Currier of Peru.

Lukas E. Carter of Keeseville received a Bachelor of Science degree in health and science studies at Quinnipiac University, Hamden Conn.

Jordan Spiegel, class of 2011, of Chazy, has been elected to St. Lawrence University's (Canton) chapter of Phi Beta Kappa, the national academic honor society. Spiegel majored in government/economics and is a graduate of Chazy Central Rural School.

Ian Elmendorf, son of Sarah and Ted Elmendorf of Peru, has graduated from Rochester Institute of Technology with a dual degree in industrial engineering. Elmendorf, who studied in RIT's Kate Gleason College of Engineering, is a 2006 graduate of Peru High School.

Some 2,475 students were awarded a variety of bachelor's degrees during the University of Vermont's 207th Commencement ceremonies. There were some 511 advanced degrees and certificates awarded by the UVM Graduate College and approximately 111 women and men took the oath of Hippocrates following the awarding of their M.D. degrees.

McDowell of Plattsburgh, BS and BA degrees in human development & family studies; Amanda M. Mosher of Plattsburgh, a DPT in physical therapy; Peter D. Krawczel of Champlain, a Ph.D in animal science and food & nutrition science; Madeleine H. Brown of Lake Placid, a BA in environmental studies; Zachary C. Horrocks of Lake Placid, a BS in community entrepreneurship; Marque Lou Moffett of Peru, an MS in biochemistry; Joe W. Wiley of Peru, an EDD in educational leadership & policy study; Taras R. Gach of Saranac Lake, a BA in political science; Gina M. Combs of West Chazy, a MBA in business administration; and Julia L. Lyon of Wilmington, a BA in anthropology.

The following students were named to the Dean's List for the 2011 spring semester at Messiah College, Grantham, Pa.: Plattsburgh resident Keane McCullum and Mooers resident Nathan Myers.

Sarah Elliott Novacich has been awarded a doctorate in English literature from Yale University. She is a graduate of Northeastern Clinton Central School.

Matthew Farbotko of Rouses Point, at Sage College of Albany, has been placed on the Dean's Honor List for the spring 2011 semester.

Laura Helen Gregory, the daughter of Michael and Mary Gregory of Morrisonville, has attained the spring 2011 Dean's List at Juniata College, Huntingdon, Pa. She is studying health, conflict and society with Spanish secondary emphasis. Gregory is a 2007 graduate of Seton Catholic Central High School.

State University of New York at Oswego leaders, faculty members and students recognized Peru native and Dirigo High School graduate Michelle Hamann as "Outstanding Senior" at the college's annual Torchlight Ceremony.

The Outstanding Senior Award goes to a graduating student who is highly involved on campus and maintains an exceptional academic record.

Hamann, a regular on the Dean's and President's lists, graduated with a Master of Business Administration degree this May. As president of Oswego's Omicron Delta Kappa circle, she was instrumental in organizing the inaugural Future Oswego Leaders Conference this year.

A 2010 SUNY Chancellor's Award for Student Excellence recipient and the Outstanding Business Student (John Parr) Award winner in May, Hamann is involved with numerous student organizations and honor societies, including Vega, WTOP-TV, the Newman Center and Beta Gamma Sigma.

She has accepted a position as audit associate at KPMG accounting and plans to pursue a law degree.

Amanda C. Godlewski was presented a Juris Doctor from UNH School of Law, Concord, N.H., in a May ceremony.

While at UNH, Godlewski was the recipient of an award for her legal brief in the 2010 Uvaldo, Herrera National Moot Court Competition in San Diego, Calif., and most recently served as president of the UNH School of Law Chapter of the Hispanic National Bar Association.

A 2003 graduate of Mohonasen High School in Schenectady, Godlewski earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in 2007 as a double-major in politics and sociology at Brandeis University in Waltham, Mass.

She is the daughter of Olga and Michael Godlewski of Plattsburgh.

Nazareth College in Rochester has announced the following students have earned Dean's List honors for the Spring 2011 semester: Marnie Reynolds of Plattsburgh, Renee Tetreault of Plattsburgh, David Balestrini of Lake Placid, Allison Andre of Brushton, Leanne LaMondie of Constable and Glynis Jones of Rainbow Lake.
