David Lang arraigned for murder

ELIZABETHTOWN — Crown Point resident David Lang pleaded not guilty in Essex County Court Monday to killing his brother by shooting him in the head.

Lang, 70, is charged with felony second-degree murder and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, also a felony. He has been held in the Essex County Jail in Lewis since the June 19 shooting.

His attorney, Public Defender Robert Seymour, entered not guilty pleas for him at the arraignment.

Lang was returned to jail in lieu of paying $1 million cash or $2 million bail bond set by Judge Richard Meyer.

Meyer gave Seymour and Essex County District Attorney Kristy Sprague 45 days to file motions, and he set Nov. 15 as a return appearance date for Lang.

David’s brother, Russell Lang, 63, died at Fletcher Allen Health Care shortly after noon on June 20, the day after a alleged dispute between the two that ended with Russell shot in the head with a small-caliber rifle. The motive for the shooting at the brothers’ home at 325 Lake Road in Crown Point, was an argument the two were having, State Police said.

David had apparently been banished from the farmhouse the two shared and was living in a camp on the 90-acre property.

The Lang farm had not been operated as a working farm for many years, police said.
