Police, DEC searching for missing LP man

LAKE PLACID — Police are asking the public to assist in locating Seth A. Kilburn, who was last seen leaving Wise Guys bar on School Street here between 12:30 and 1 a.m. Sunday.

Police do not know what direction the Lake Placid man headed, presumably on foot.

But the Department of Environmental Conservation is assisting in the search.

DEC spokesman David Winchell confirmed the effort is under way.

“Forest rangers are assisting the Village of Lake Placid Police Department's missing-person investigation by searching wooded areas in and around the village," he said in an email.

"Currently, three forest rangers are assigned to this effort. Lake Placid PD is the lead agency on this matter and will provide any other information, including the status of the search efforts."

Kilburn was reported missing by family members.

Police are using social media to spread information to area residents, in particular by Facebook posts, which has netted hundreds of responses.

“At this time, Seth is being considered a missing person,” police said on Facebook, adding details about when he was last seen and including photos.

“Thank you all for sharing this information and keep spreading the word,” the post says.

Kilburn is a white male with brown hair and eyes, is 5 foot 11 inches tall and weighs 195 pounds. He was last seen wearing a blue-and-white striped polo shirt and tan- or khaki-colored shorts.

He also wears eyeglasses.

No further information was yet available on why police believe Kilburn is missing.

Reach Lake Placid Police at 523-3306.
