Fujitsu to expand in Plattsburgh

PLATTSBURGH — Fujitsu Frontech North America plans to move its point-of-sale equipment manufacturing and integration operations from California to Plattsburgh.

Vic Herring of Fujitsu Frontech North America said the move is expected to bring about 50 additional jobs to Plattsburgh.

"This will be taking place over the next few months. It will be completed by the end of September."

AUTOMATED CHECKOUTS

Fujitsu Frontech North America has manufactured and operated supply-chain management of its Self-Checkout and Self-Service systems at its Air Industrial Park location on Route 3 for about 10 years. It will now also manufacture its point-of-sale — computerized retail checkout systems — equipment in Plattsburgh.

Dick Zarski, senior vice president of manufacturing, supply chain and logistics for Fujitsu Frontech North America, said the move brings tremendous potential for the company to expand its business operations in New York state.

"Fujitsu Frontech North America is committed to continually seeking ways to adopt best practices and to improve logistics processes and quality management for retail clients in North America," he said in a press release.

"We believe that consolidating our manufacturing and supply-chain management functions in one location demonstrates Fujitsu Frontech North America's dedication to providing operational excellence and service efficiencies."

HIGH RATINGS

The move is designed to streamline manufacturing and logistics processes to make the company more efficient and improve the quality of service it offers customers.

Fujitsu Frontech North America's manufacturing and supply-chain operation is ISO 9011:2008 certified and has received numerous best-practice nominations by third-party auditors, including the British Standards Institution and Del Norske Veritas. The move continues the company's efforts to streamline its North American logistics operations. It is changing the global supply chain for its point-of-sale products as part of a larger strategy to implement a complete retail-products global-supply-chain network.

Headquartered in Foothill Ranch, Calif., Fujitsu Frontech North America offers business solutions that include retail, biometric security, cloud infrastructure, currency handling products and digital media solutions.
