Plattsburgh sex offender jailed again

PLATTSBURGH — A high-risk child molester has been returned to jail after admitting he failed to properly register as a sex offender.

Michael J. Rougeau has been required to register since his December 2008 sexual-abuse conviction for repeatedly fondling a 2-year-old girl.

Within a year, the 34-year-old Plattsburgh man was arrested for violating the terms of those requirements, an act that put him back behind bars at Clinton County Jail.

Recently, Rougeau returned to Clinton County Court and admitted to a felony charge of failure to register as a sex offender.

During his sentencing before Judge Patrick McGill, Rougeau was ordered to serve 11⁄2 to three years as a second-felony offender.

He must also pay a court surcharge.

Rougeau, who must remain on the registry for the rest of his life, served 90 days in jail following his abuse conviction.
