Man charged with beating dog

MOIRA — A North Bangor man was arrested this week, accused of severely beating a small dog.

Malone-based State Police said Thursday that in late November, Donald H. LaBelle grabbed a piece of wood and began beating his Maltese.

The beating caused the dog to lose an eye, State Police said.

This week, authorities arrested the 55-year-old on a single felony charge of aggravated cruelty to animals.

After being arraigned Wednesday afternoon, LaBelle was sent to Franklin County Jail on $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 bond.

He has pleaded not guilty.

Police said the dog was treated after the beating and continues to recover.
