KEESEVILLE — The Keeseville United Methodist Church will hold a candlelight worship service at 7 p.m. on Christmas Eve.

Village goes green on holiday lights
SARANAC LAKE — The Village of Saranac Lake is realizing significant savings on its electric costs after installing LED holiday lights last season.
Last year, the village purchased LED replacement bulbs for its holiday decorations at a total cost of $6,420, figuring it would result in an 85-percent savings in electricity costs and that the lights would pay for themselves in a little over a year.
The final bill from National Grid for the 2008-09 season confirmed those estimates. Without the LED lights, the village's electric bill for 2008-09 would have been $6,961. The actual bill is $945 for a savings of 86.4 percent, so the payback for the investment will be just over a year.
Village staff worked with NYSERDA and Community Energy Services on the project.
"I was excited to finally see what our actual savings were for this project," Mayor Thomas Michael said in a news release. "Once again we see that making smart investments help realize long-term savings to the village and its taxpayers. Beyond its financial benefits, this project also promotes the village's commitment to environmental sustainability."

Public swearing-in in Franklin County
MALONE — The Franklin County Multi-Bench Court will host a public swearing-in for all of the county, town and village officials who were elected or re-elected to public office at the November general election.
Franklin County Judge Robert G. Main Jr. and Supreme Court Justice David Demarest invite all those elected to participate in a ceremonial administration of the oath of office. Franklin County Clerk Wanda Murtagh will be available to take and record written oaths of office.
The ceremony, which is open to the public, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 4, in the main courtroom of the Franklin County Courthouse in Malone and will be followed by a reception.
"I hope very much that many of our newly elected or re-elected public officials will be able to attend this happy occasion," Main said in a news release.
Video and still photography of the ceremony and the individual oaths will be allowed.
Environmental camp scholarship offered
CHESTERTOWN — The Greater Adirondack Resource Conservation and Development Council is seeking applications for its 14th-annual Charles Lathrop Pack Scholarship.
Students in age brackets 12 to 14 and 15 to 17 years old are invited to compete for a one-week stay at the Department of Environmental Conservation's Environmental Education Camp in Warrensburg this summer.
Sessions for 15- to 17-year-olds run from June 27 to July 24, and sessions for 12- to 14-year-olds run from Aug. 1 through 21.
The scholarship is open to permanent residents of Clinton, Essex, Fulton, Hamilton, Saratoga, Warren and Washington counties.
Entries must be received by Jan. 20 and should consist of a 200-to-300-word essay describing the applicant's accomplishments and/or interests in natural-resource conservation studies, noting why they feel the experience would be beneficial to them. Applicants should include their full name, address, date of birth and phone number. Parental permission will be required.
