ELLENBURG DEPOT — Taxpayers here voted against a $35.9 million proposal to add new security, classrooms and technology at the Northern Adirondack schools.

The tallies came in at 453 against and 339 in favor of the renovations.

"Now that the voting results are in," Superintendent Laura Marlow said Monday night, "the District Board of Education and administration will examine all options in light of the ever-changing fiscal landscape of New York state.

"Feedback received throughout the process and the voter exit surveys will be reviewed and taken into consideration in the weeks ahead."

From the $35.9 million, $28 million would have come from New York State Building Aid and $825,000 from New York State EXCEL Aid. That would have left $7,075,000 to the taxpayers, which Marlow equates to about 25 cents more per day.

The project called for improvements to the middle and high school, elementary school and overall site work.

Ten new classrooms would have been added, the main offices would have been expanded and upgraded, building entries would have been secured, the library upgraded and enclosed, the buildings upgraded for energy efficiency, and most areas would have been significantly renovated.

Site work included the addition of a new competition track and field with a six-lane running track, irrigation system and 200-seat bleachers, along with drainage improvements and repairs to existing fields and courts.
