WOKO plans stunt to raise money for van
PLATTSBURGH — WOKO morning show co-host Wild Bill Sargent will lock himself at the top of the Macdonough Monument in Plattsburgh, starting at 6 a.m. today, until money is raised to buy a new medical transport van for disabled veterans.

The Clinton Country Veterans Service Agency uses a customized 12-passenger van to transport disabled veterans to the VA Hospital in Albany.

"Each year, we make 135 to 150 round trips at 360 miles per trip for an average of 55,000 miles per year," said Steve Bowman, director of the Veterans Services Agency, which oversees the van's schedule and upkeep.

A 1999 van, one of two currently being used, needs to be replaced. The agency has raised $7,800 but needs an additional $18,000 to buy a new van.

"With everything these veterans have done for our country, making sure they get the care they've earned and deserve is the least we can do," said Sargent, who will broadcast live from the top of the monument.

Beginning at 10 a.m., co-host C.K. Coin will be at City Hall, with a cash drop set up in front of Macdonough Monument. However, most of the money is expected to come from listeners calling in pledges to WOKO at (800) 354-9890 or business line (800) 554-9890.
