Don’t state as a fact something that is unsubstantiated or that our editors wouldn't know to be true.

Don’t presume someone’s guilt in a case when it hasn't been established by a court.

Don’t assail or impugn an identifiable individual or group. If you have that kind of criticism, sign your name and submit it as a Letter to the Editor. (There is some leeway on this in connection with public officials, but it is not unconditional.)

Don’t use profanity. This includes the term “tea bagger.”

Don’t be incendiary or tasteless. Those qualities are subjective, of course, and our editors will be the arbiters.

Do not identify yourself in the main content area of the article content form. Only by enforcing this rule can the moderators prevent unscrupulous commenters from falsely identifying themselves as someone they are not.

Don't type in all caps. It is considered the Internet equivalent of shouting.

In sports articles, do not criticize officiating.

Remember, moderators are not allowed to edit any article comments. If an article comment fails any of the above criteria, the entire comment will be deleted.

We monitor comments Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Approval of comments outside these times may be delayed.

Garbage pickup in city adjusted this week
PLATTSBURGH — There will be no garbage collections by the City Public Works Department throughout the city on Thursday and Friday.

Monday's collection was done on its usual day, but today's and Wednesday's collections will be done today, and Thursday and Friday collections will be done on Wednesday.

Agenda set for today's City
Council meeting

PLATTSBURGH — The City of Plattsburgh Common Council will meet tonight this week instead of Thursday due to the Thanksgiving holiday.

The agenda includes a revision of the 2009 budget for a contract for parks and beautification; a request to write off unpaid bills for the Municipal Lighting Department of about $2,381 for December 2008, and a request from the Recreation Department to sign a contract with Albany Runners Exchange for race services to be provided for the city's half-marathon road race on April 18, 2010, at a cost not to exceed $4,570, to be funded from the city's Recreation Complex Administration budget.

The meeting begins with a work session at 5 p.m., followed by the regular meeting at 5:30 p.m.

Plattsburgh Town Court closing set
PLATTSBURGH — Town of Plattsburgh Town Court will not be in session Thursday due to the Thanksgiving holiday. The office will also be closed Friday.

Black Brook Offices closed later in week
AUSABLE FORKS — Black Brook Town Offices will be closed Thursday and Friday for the Thanksgiving holiday.

Offices will re-open on Monday.

Dannemora Village Offices to be closed
DANNEMORA — The Dannemora Village Offices will be closed on Thursday and Friday due to the holiday.

Willsboro seeks Wall of Distinction nominees
WILLSBORO — Willsboro Central School is accepting nominations for its 2010 Wall of Distinction.

The award is designed to recognize individuals who have made a significant impact to the school or achieved outstanding contributions to society as a former student at Willsboro Central.

Applications are available by calling the school at 963-4456 or visiting the Web site www.willsborocsd.org and will be available until Dec. 18.
