County, city meetings moved due to holiday
PLATTSBURGH — The Clinton County Legislature and the Plattsburgh Common Council have changed their meeting times for Thanksgiving week because of the holiday.

The legislature will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday instead of Wednesday.

The Common Council will meet at 5 p.m. Tuesday, with a work session followed by the regular meeting at 5:30 p.m., instead of the usual Thursday nights.

The city and county meetings are all open to the public.

Police on the roads in full holiday force
RAY BROOK — As part of an annual seat-belt enforcement effort, law-enforcement officials are reminding local residents to buckle up this holiday season.

State Police announced the latest enforcement blitz Wednesday, saying a number of checkpoints and heavy patrols will be used during the Thanksgiving holiday.

The effort is designed to encourage more drivers and passengers to buckle up.

Officials said the upcoming holiday weekend traditionally kicks off the winter-travel season, one of the most heavily traveled times of the year in New York.

During last year's Thanksgiving holiday, 389 people were killed in accidents, and almost half of those killed were not wearing seat belts, according to a State Police news release.
