Peru School e-mail server down
PERU — Peru Central School District has been notified by the Northeastern Regional Information Center that its e-mail server unit experienced hardware failure and requires replacement.
The unit had been in place since 2005. It will take a week to 10 days before the new unit is delivered and ready to connect to Peru's information technology network, according to Peru Central Superintendent of Schools A. Paul Scott.
The district is working with the Northeastern Regional Information Center to restore e-mail service on a temporary basis via other means.
Parent conferences next week will continue as previously scheduled.
The district is asking parents and guardians who wish to communicate with staff to use the telephone until a temporary fix is put into place.
ARC hosting annual holiday fundraiser
PLATTSBURGH — The Advocacy and Resource Center of Clinton County is hosting the third-annual Festival of Trees from Nov. 22 to 28.
The event raises funds and awareness for the developmentally disabled and their families in our community.
Area businesses, nonprofits and civic groups sponsor and decorate more than 40 holiday trees that will be showcased at Champlain Centre mall at the inside entrance of Gander Mountain.
All trees will be available for a donation of $5 per ticket, with winning tickets drawn Nov. 28.
The event is underwritten by Empire Blue Cross, and media sponsors include K00L 105, WIRY and Fox 44.

Cause of death determined in plane crash
NEWCOMB — The cause of death has been determined for the two Malone-area men killed when the Piper Cherokee they were flying crashed Sunday at Santanoni Mountain near Lake Placid.
Dr. C. Francis Varga, who performed the autopsies, determined that pilot Daniel R. Wills, 48, of North Bangor and his passenger, Ronald E. Rouselle, 66, of Bombay, died of blunt-force trauma as a result of the accident, according to State Police.
The investigation into the cause of the crash is continuing.
Special Port Henry Village Board meeting set
PORT HENRY — The Port Henry Village Board will hold a special meeting at noon Monday to authorize payment of the salt-shed invoice in advance of the regular December disbursements.
All meetings are open to the public.
Also, Village Offices will be closed in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday on Nov. 26 and 27.
Port Henry dissolution discussion tonight
PORT HENRY — Residents of the Village of Port Henry will learn about the fiscal and tax impacts of dissolving the village at a public forum tonight.
The meeting will be at 7 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus building at 4253 Main St. in Port Henry.
A joint village-town Dissolution Study Committee has been conducting a dissolution study since early fall with assistance from a study consultant, the Rochester-based Center for Governmental Research.
The study team will discuss estimated cost savings if the village dissolves; tax impact of dissolution for both village and town taxpayers; impact on village services; and the next steps in the study process.
The Village Board is expected to put dissolution up for a vote in March 2010.
