CHAMPLAIN — Alcohol and high speed are believed to have been factors when a man rolled his Jeep Cherokee three times Sunday afternoon.
Chazy-based State Police reported Jeffrey A. Landry Jr., 22, of West Chazy was driving north on Rapids Road at what is believed to have been a high rate of speed. He reportedly lost control of the vehicle at about 2:20 p.m. as he neared the intersection of Route 11 in the Town of Champlain.
The car exited the road and rolled over three times. Police said Landry was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected.
He was transported to CVPH Medical Center and later airlifted to Fletcher Allen Health Care for treatment of head trauma, possible spinal trauma and multiple other injuries.
Police said alcohol is believed to have been a factor in the accident. It remains under investigation, with tickets and charges pending.
Route 11 was closed between its intersections with Route 9 and Elm Street after the accident. The road was reopened later Sunday afternoon.
