Food drive on in Plattsburgh parishes
PLATTSBURGH — Msgr. Morris L. Dwyer, Knight's of Columbus Council 255, Plattsburgh, will conduct a parish food drive today and Sunday.
Members of the Knights of Columbus will be at all parish masses at St. Peter's, St. John's and the Newman Center for the weekend Masses.
With the food and fuel prices escalating, many families depend on the food shelf for their families, and Thanksgiving is traditionally a time of year for giving and helping those in need.
Parishioners are asked to bring non-perishable foods to their Masses. Donation boxes for those wishing to contribute money will be available at entrances to the churches.

Appeals court upholds local conviction
PLATTSBURGH — A state appeals court has upheld a Franklin County Court conviction.
Lewis Fitzgerald was convicted in September 2006 of first-degree criminal contempt.
According to the ruling by the Appellate Division of the State Supreme Court, the appeals court had sent the case back to Franklin County Court for a hearing on whether Fitzgerald's plea of guilty was voluntary because he may have been misinformed of the maximum sentence, influencing his agreement to take the proposed plea.
The appeals court said it reviewed that hearing transcript and found that Fitzgerald voluntarily, knowingly and intelligently entered his plea.
