PLATTSBURGH — People were recovering Tuesday from an accident in downtown Plattsburgh that injured two people and damaged their vehicles, plus a jewelry store.
Just before 8:30 a.m. Monday, Jamie J. Viveiros, 31, of Plattsburgh was stopped on Durkee Street at the intersection with Bridge Street when his car was rear-ended by a van driven by David A. Dubrey, 45, of Plattsburgh, City Police said. The van then crashed into the window of the Lily Pond jewelry store at 17 Bridge St.
Dubrey had a seizure just before the accident, police said. He was listed in stable condition Tuesday at CVPH Medical Center. Viveiros was treated and released.
Pauline Kanar, who owns the Lily Pond, said they were lucky the store was not open at the time of the accident; otherwise, customers or employees could have been injured.
"We lost a good deal of inventory," she said Tuesday.
She didn't have an estimate of damage yet, nor did building owner Mike Lawler, but both the business and the building are insured.
Tickets are still pending the completion of the investigation.
