The Franklin County Bar Association recently elected John J. Muldowney of Saranac Lake as their new president.

Muldowney is the managing partner of the law firm of Fischer, Bessette, Muldowney & Hunter, LLP, of Malone. He is a graduate of Princeton University and Albany Law School of Union University.

Also elected as officers were Douglas Wright of Hayes & Wright in Tupper Lake as vice president; Virginia Morrow of Saranac Lake, secretary; and Richard Edwards of Walsh & Edwards in Malone, treasurer.

The Franklin County Bar Association is an organization that serves attorneys and the public on local and statewide issues relating to the justice system. It also sponsors community and educational programs such as New Visions, Mock Trial and the Liberty Bell Award.



Mike Cable, a former North Country resident and 1983 graduate of Saranac Central High School, was awarded second prize in the PX3 2009 Competition, held in Paris, France, for an entry entitled, "Pier Poles on the Sound."

The jury selected the winners from thousands of photography entries from more than 85 countries.

Cable also received three honorable mentions for works in three separate categories in the PX3 contest.

Winning photographs from this competition are exhibited in a high-profile gallery in Paris and published in the full-color Px3 annual book.

Cable lived in Plattsburgh until he was 5 years old; then his family moved to Cadyville. After high school, he served in the Air Force military police for four years.

Cable has an associate's degree in science from Hudson Valley Community College in Troy and a bachelor's degree in exercise science from Salisbury University in Maryland.

He is a self-taught photographer.

He has won numerous photography contests and has had his works published in the DSLR USER Magazine, European Canon EOS 500D Brochure, Delmarva Quarterly and Popular Photography & Imaging Magazine.

He and his wife, Claire, and their daughter, Emily, live in Princess Anne, Md.
