PLATTSBURGH — Discover the good life.
That is the theme of the Plattsburgh-North Country Chamber of Commerce's new Web site and DVD, designed to help local employers attract personnel from outside the area.
Plattsburgh-North Country Chamber of Commerce President Garry Douglas said the site aims to showcase the good life enjoyed by area residents while it frames Plattsburgh within a region that includes Montreal, Vermont and the Adirondacks.
"It also builds in segments devoted to key economic sectors we foresee doing recruitment in the future, such as transportation equipment, aerospace, bio/pharma and the green economy," he said in a news release.
"But, at the same time, it is useful for everyone recruiting someone from outside the area or taking a look at our area as a possible place to live and work.
"Larger employers will find it valuable, but so will medical practices of all kinds, retailers transferring new managers in and schools recruiting teachers."
The Web site, www.northcountrygoodlife.com, has links to six categories: recreational and cultural activities, family resources, health care and fitness, business and industry, housing and financing, and the area as a gateway to Montreal and the Adirondacks.
Each has a series of subcategories, which offer more in-depth information about what the region has to offer.
The chamber wants area employers to note the Web site in their recruitment materials and can provide an icon for a direct link to the site that can be used on business Web sites.
DVD AVAILABLE
The chamber has also introduced a new DVD/CD-ROM package that will be sent to people who express interest in the region as a place to work or invest.
It features a number of video testimonials from local government and business leaders. Subjects include Plattsburgh's central location between Montreal, Burlington and Lake Placid, its position as the gateway to the U.S. market, redevelopment of Plattsburgh Air Force Base, education, recreation and health-care services.
"The DVD provides an especially compelling look at our region and is a valuable additional tool beyond the content of the Web site," Douglas said.
It is also available for employers who are chamber members to use in their recruitment efforts.
MORE MARKETING
The Web site and DVD were developed by the chamber as part of its Aerospace, Transportation Equipment and Green Tech Workforce Strategy.
That strategy is now in a second phase that will develop additional materials and marketing strategies for use in response to future needs of new or expanding employers.
