Keeseville Zoning Board to discuss fence variance

KEESEVILLE — The Keeseville Zoning Board will hold a special meeting at 7 tonight in the Village Hall, 58 Liberty St.

The purpose is to revisit a variance application for a six-foot fence at 13 Jackson St.

The meeting is open to all.

Agenda planned for Common Council meeting tonight

PLATTSBURGH — The City of Plattsburgh Common Council will meet at City Hall at 5:30 tonight for a work session, with the regular meeting to follow.

Agenda items include several street closures: Irises wants to close City Hall Place from Bridge Street to Court Street on Oct. 7 for a 15th-anniversary block party, the Battle of Plattsburgh Commemoration Committee plans street closures Sept. 7 and 8 for the parade and other events, and citizens want to close a section of Grace Avenue for a block party.

Other items up for discussion include a Verizon easement, travel requests and tree plantings.

All meetings of the council are open to the public.

Saranac Lake special meeting planned Sept. 5

SARANAC LAKE — The Saranac Lake School Board will hold a special meeting 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 5, at the Petrova Library.

The meeting will be a discussion with the Lake Placid School Board about the possibility of sharing a superintendent.

The meeting is open to all.

DOT to put in pedestrian lights in Saranac Lake

SARANAC LAKE — The New York State Department of Transportation is installing pedestrian beacons at the intersection of State Route 3 and Dorsey Street in the Village of Saranac Lake.

The beacons are push-button activated and provide motorists a flashing yellow light indicating that the crosswalk is in use, as well as a sign designating the crosswalk location. It is expected that the pedestrian beacon will be operational before the start of the school year.

Existing traffic signal and pedestrian crossings located at State Route 3 and Canaras Avenue and State Route 3 (River Street) and Main Street will remain fully operational with pedestrian signal face boxes and countdown timers.

As a reminder with the coming start of the school year, state law requires motorists to yield to pedestrians in a crosswalk.

Lyon Mountain Fire District holding budget hearing

LYON MOUNTAIN — The Lyon Mountain Fire District will hold its preliminary budget hearing at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 4, at the Lyon Mountain Fire Station, 9 Fire House Road.

The meeting is open to all.

NCCS School Board meeting coming up

CHAMPLAIN — The Northeastern Clinton Central School Board will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 4, in the Middle/High School Library.

Discussion will focus on 2012-13 district goals.

The meeting is open to the public.
