Two NCCS Board seats open
CHAMPLAIN — The Northeastern Clinton Central School District has two board seats for the 2010-11 school year.

Change of attorney delays sentencing
PLATTSBURGH — Bruce Flynn of West Chazy appeared in Clinton County Court Thursday afternoon for sentencing, but the proceeding was adjourned until next week.

The 59-year-old is facing 10 years in prison in connection with an Oct. 8 incident, where, authorities said, he broke into a woman's home and threatened her with a weapon.

The former correction sergeant later pleaded guilty to burglary and weapons possession in exchange for the lighter sentence.

But a last-minute change of attorney has led to a delay to allow Flynn's new lawyer, Edward Narrow of Plattsburgh, additional time to review the case.

Flynn, who retired from the Department of Corrections in 2008, is set to return to court March 24.

UNYTEA plans protest Saturday
PLATTSBURGH — The Upstate New York Tea Party will stage a protest in front of Congressman William Owens's offices in Plattsburgh at 3 p.m. Saturday.

"Bill Owens will be casting his vote for or against the Senate health-care bill as early as this coming Sunday," UNYTEA Chairman Mark L. Barie said in a news release.

"We want to send a strong message to the congressman that voting for $500 billion in new taxes plus a trillion dollars in new spending is not acceptable."

Rouses Point in Tree Power Program
ROUSES POINT — The New York Power Authority and the New York State Nursery and Landscape Association have invited the Village of Rouses Point to participate in the 2010 Tree Power Program again this year.

The offer lets you buy one tree and get one free or at a reduced cost.

Many tree selections are being matched by the NYPA for free. Again, this year they are making more options available for larger trees, which NYPA will match at a reduced cost.

The cost of the trees are $85 for 1½-inch caliper and $170 for 2½-inch caliper. The purchase deadline is March 22.

For more information, call the Village Office at 297-5502.

Tonight's meeting begins with a work session at 5 p.m., followed by the regular meeting at 5:30, both open to the public.

Mini grants awarded to area schools
PLATTSBURGH — The Clinton County Health Department's Eat Well Play Hard Program and Action for Health Partnership have awarded mini grants to seven agencies in Clinton County.
