Mini grants awarded to area schools
PLATTSBURGH — The Clinton County Health Department's Eat Well Play Hard Program and Action for Health Partnership have awarded mini grants to seven agencies in Clinton County.
The grants, totaling about $15,500, went to Peru Intermediate School, Beekmantown School District, Mooers Elementary, City of Plattsburgh, AuSable Forks Elementary, Child Care Coordinating Council and the Town of Plattsburgh Recreation Department.
The Eat Well Play Hard Program and the Action for Health Partnership is a collaboration of community agency representatives who meet regularly to plan ways to integrate nutrition and physical-activity opportunities for residents of Clinton County.
Some of this year's grants included development of an elementary school garden; adding vegetarian and low-fat homemade soups to cafeteria options; enhancing a preschool play group, providing elementary children with new physical-activity options; development of a new health program in school; enhancement of the Saranac River Trail; and the development of an additional nine holes for the Disc Golf Course in Cadyville, bringing it to an 18-hole course.
