ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — Democrat Steve Levy says he is planning to announce that he will seek the Republican nomination for governor.
Levy is a Suffolk County executive. His spokeswoman told The New York Times late Wednesday that Levy will announce his intention to seek the Republican nomination.
Levy had run on the Democratic, Republican, Conservative and Independence lines in his successful re-election bid for county executive.
Republican candidate Rick Lazio says he's still confident he will win Republican and Conservative support. Lazio has secured many endorsements by local GOP and Conservative leaders.
Gov. David Paterson has ended his campaign for election in the wake of scandal. The presumptive front-runner for the Democratic nomination is Attorney General Andrew Cuomo, but he has yet to announce his expected candidacy.
