PLATTSBURGH — It's St. Patrick's Day, and holiday celebrations are planned in several North Country communities.
Area bars are also hosting special events, but be warned that law-enforcement agencies have stepped up DWI patrols, so be sure to appoint a designated driver or call a cab.
Here's a look at some of the public events happening today:
52nd-annual Saint Patrick's Day Breakfast. 7:30 a.m. Plattsburgh State Angell College Center Ballroom. Irish entertainment, Irishman of the Year to be named. Sponsored by the Plattsburgh-North Country Chamber of Commerce.
St. Patty's Day Bash. 4 p.m. Keeseville Elks Lodge 2072. Corned beef and cabbage or ham. Raffles and prizes. Donations accepted.
Special Storytime. 6:30 p.m. Plattsburgh Public Library children's room. St. Patrick Day songs, fingerplays and a Leprechaun filmstrip.
St. Patrick's Day corned beef and cabbage dinner. 11 a.m. Veterans of Foreign Wars 125, Boynton Avenue, Plattsburgh. Free to members; public, $7.50. To benefit North Country veterans.
St. Patrick's Day dinner. 4:30 p.m. Three Steeples United Methodist Church, Champlain. Adults, $8; ages 5 to 12, $4; under 5, free. Takeouts available.
Public skating. 4 p.m. Rouses Point Civic Center. Admission: $2.
