SARANAC — A Saranac High School student allegedly told her peers last week that she was planning an attack.
New York State Police were called in to investigate, and school officials took measures to ensure student safety.
At no time during the incident was anyone in danger, police say.
Last Thursday, New York State Police were advised by school officials of a possible threat at the High School.
A school resource officer assigned to the High School responded and initiated a preliminary investigation, according to a State Police press release.
The investigation revealed that the student did make comments to other students referring to an attack she was planning, though she never put her plan into action, police said. At the time of the investigation, the student did not possess weapons or have access to them.
“Contrary to various reports, the investigation to date has not revealed any ‘hit list’ established by the student,” State Police said.
“At no time during this incident was anyone in any danger, nor was anyone put in harm’s way.”
The Bureau of Criminal Investigations Criminal Unit continues to investigate the incident.
Saranac School officials are proceeding with administrative action, police said.
Contacted Tuesday, Saranac Central School Superintendent Kenneth Cringle said: “I cannot discuss information which relates to any particular student.”
He did explain the type of action school officials would take if a situation were to occur.
“Safety of students and staff is a priority at all times,” Cringle said.
