RAY BROOK —
State Police say a former employee of a Saranac Lake medical practice stole more than $100,000 from the business.
Mary L. Harvey, 61, of Saranac Lake worked for North Country Family Physicians for more than 10 years, leaving last November.
Police were contacted after administrators at the clinic found problems while sorting through records.
"They were going through business records and noticed discrepancies," Investigator Daniel T. Howard of the State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation said today.
"Statute of limitations allows us to go back five years, so we went back to 2005."
Harvey has been charged with second-degree grand larceny.
Howard could not say anything more specific about the manner in which the money was allegedly stolen.
Harvey was not a company accountant.
"She worked in the front office," Howard said, "as an office worker."
Harvey went to State Police Troop B Headquarters with attorney Jeremiah Hayes of Tupper Lake to face the arrest on Friday, Howard said.
She was arraigned before Harrietstown Town Justice Thomas Glover and then released to the supervision of the Probation Department.
She will reappear in Harrietstown Town Court before the case is transferred to Franklin County Court.
North Country Family Physicians is a family clinic on County Route 47 that includes several primary-care doctors: Dr. Barry Kilbourne, Dr. Lawrence King and Dr. George Cook.
State Police began the investigation in February.
Hayes did not respond to a phone message left at his office today.
No other local police agencies were involved in the investigation, which Howard said has become an ongoing prosecution.
