Local man killed in Plattsburgh car accident

PLATTSBURGH — A New Russia man was killed in a one-car accident on Interstate 87 late Saturday night.

At 11:30 p.m., Paul T. McCoy, 49, was driving a 1997 Chevrolet pickup truck north on I-87 in the Town of Plattsburgh near mile marker 148 when he went off the road while following a slight curve, according to a New York State Police report.

The truck struck the east-side guardrail, crossed both traffic lanes and then struck the west-side guardrail.

McCoy was partially ejected from the truck and died at the scene as a result of injuries sustained from the accident.

Clinton County Coroner David Donah was at the scene following the accident and approved the removal of McCoy’s body.

According to the report, unsafe speed and alcohol could have been contributing factors to the crash.

The investigation is ongoing.
