WESTPORT — A Westport man allegedly killed his pet dog with a knife.
Paul T. Facey, 23, is charged with felony aggravated cruelty to animals.
He was jailed in lieu of $5,000 bail or $10,000 bail bond but has since been released from the Essex County Jail in Lewis after posting bail.
State Police were called to Facey’s residence at 1166 Ledge Hill Road on Tuesday evening after 7, where the dog, a female adult pit bull, was found dead from a knife wound to the neck.
“It was allegedly his own dog,” State Police Capt. John Tibbitts said Thursday. “He cut his (dog’s) throat with a knife. The troopers responded, investigated and arrested him for that.”
He said Facey did not have “a viable reason” for the killing.
Lewis-based State Police handled the case, and Facey is due in Westport Town Court in August for a preliminary hearing.
