Don’t assail or impugn an identifiable individual or group. If you have that kind of criticism, sign your name and submit it as a Letter to the Editor. (There is some leeway on this in connection with public officials, but it is not unconditional.)

Don’t use profanity. This includes the term “tea bagger.”

Don’t be incendiary or tasteless. Those qualities are subjective, of course, and our editors will be the arbiters.

Do not identify yourself in the main content area of the article content form. Only by enforcing this rule can the moderators prevent unscrupulous commenters from falsely identifying themselves as someone they are not.

Don't type in all caps. It is considered the Internet equivalent of shouting.

In sports articles, do not criticize officiating.

Remember, moderators are not allowed to edit any article comments. If an article comment fails any of the above criteria, the entire comment will be deleted.

We monitor comments Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Approval of comments outside these times may be delayed.

Beekmantown man displaced by fire

BEEKMANTOWN — A Beekmantown man is displaced when fire destroyed his double-wide trailer Monday night.

The Beekmantown Fire Department was called at 7:45 p.m. to 19 Manor Drive, the residence of Wayne Provost, for a reported fully involved structure fire.

"There was heavy black smoke coming out of the windows," said Beekmantown Fire Chief Steven Trombley, one of the first firefighters to arrive at the home.

"(The fire) was ready to flash out. It was just looking for some air, and when we opened the front door, it just came right through. Fire shot out the front door and front window."

Provost was redoing some windows when the fire erupted, Trombley said.

About 30 firefighters from Beekmantown, District 3, West Chazy, Chazy, Cumberland Head and Morrisonville worked together to knock down the flames, while firefighters from South Plattsburgh assisted by filling air bottles, Trombley said.

No one was injured, and all stations were back in service by 10 p.m.

The blaze is believed to have started in one of the home's bedrooms, but the exact cause is still under investigation.

Trombley said it was unlikely that Provost would be able to live in the home, which was insured.

"I would say it's a total loss," he said.

Provost was the lone occupant of the trailer but had been staying with a friend while doing work on it, Trombley said.
