SARANAC LAKE — The Saranac Lake Area Chamber of Commerce is now giving each member a page on its website.
The chamber's new site is averaging 14,000 visitors a month, and around 11,000 of them are identified by Google as new visitors, according to a news release.
Every chamber member's web page will list the business's name, address, phone number, website URL, email address and location on a map.
Each member is also entitled to a complete description of their business or service, but that must be provided by the member.
A successful web page includes a description that uses the key words associated with the business. If a grocery store is named "Sam's Market," for example, and it does not have a description of the business online, if someone searches for "groceries" or "fresh produce, the site won't be found because those specific words are not in the name of the business.
Chamber staff are available to help businesses develop effective descriptions. Call the office to make an appointment.
Chamber members can purchase a large photo across the top of the web page for $100 a year. A large, sharp, good-quality, unedited digital photograph may be all that is necessary. If a business cannot provide one, the chamber will try to get a volunteer out to take a photo, according to a news release.
For $25 a month, a business can be featured at the top of a list of like businesses. This would primarily be useful for dining and lodging businesses, where there are many in the same category.
