Plattsburgh City School Board to meet tonight

PLATTSBURGH — The Plattsburgh City School District Board will meet at 7:30 tonight at the Duken Building on Broad Street.

The board will receive a Woodmen of the World Flag presention and act on personnel and business items.

The public may attend.

Agenda set for Common Council meeting

PLATTSBURGH — The City of Plattsburgh Common Council will review a light agenda at tonight’s meeting.

Among the items to be acted on are a request from the Municipal Lighting Department to write off unpaid final bills from June 1 to June 30, 2011, in the amount of $3,300.46, which is .35 percent of revenue for that period, and a request to send Daniel Grue to attend a Hydraullic Service Training Seminar in York, Pa., Oct. 22 to 26 at a cost not to exceed $1,160.

The meeting begins with a work session at 5 p.m., followed by the regular meeting at 5:30 p.m.

Both meetings are open to the public.

Altona offices to shut down Friday

ALTONA — The Town of Altona offices will be closed on Friday.

Keeseville talk to focus on dissolution law

KEESEVILLE — The Village of Keeseville will host a dissolution presentation for the public at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 28, in the Keeseville Elementary School gymnasium, 1825 Main St.

The presentation will be conducted by Wade Beltramo, general counsel for New York Conference of Mayors, who will explain General Municipal Law Article 17-A, which became effective on March 21, 2010.

This law, titled “Consolidation and Dissolution of Local Government,” dramatically changes the process for dissolving village governments. Wade will discuss the legal procedures for dissolving local governments under the new law, as well as the practical considerations that communities should consider when going through the dissolution process.

The presentation will also include the pros and cons of village dissolution.

The free presentation is open to the public.

Hydrant flushing scheduled for Peru

PERU — The Town of Peru Water Department will be flushing fire hydrants from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. the week of Aug. 27.
