Road Construction Roundup: Aug. 21, 2012

Road construction is under way throughout Clinton, Essex and Franklin counties.

Crews ask that motorists use caution when driving through work zones. Fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone.

Here is a look at some of the major work occurring this week:

CLINTON COUNTY

Blackman Corners Road, Mooers: Crews are paving between Route 11 and the Canadian border. Motorists should expect minor delays.

Korean Veterans Memorial Bridge, Rouses Point: Crews are replacing the bridge deck membrane and bridge joints. Traffic is reduced to one lane and controlled by a traffic light on the Vermont end. The project is expected to take until Nov. 30.

Ridge Road, Champlain: Traffic has been reduced to one lane for bridge work on the Interstate 87 overpass. Portable traffic lights are in use.

Route 11, Ellenburg: Crews will continue highway rehabilitation between the intersection of routes 11 and 190 and the Mooers/Altona line. Traffic will be controlled by signs and flaggers.

Lake Shore Road, Chazy: Crews will repair the embankment. Traffic will be controlled by flaggers. Motorists should expect delays. Work is expected to continue until the end of September.

Interstate 87, exits 39 and 38N: Bridge work has reduced traffic to one lane in both directions between exits 39 and 38N. The speed limit has been reduced to 45 mph. The Exit 38N southbound ramp is closed, and motorists should follow the posted detour if they want to go west on Route 374 and Route 22.

Salmon River Road, Schuyler Falls: Crews are performing road construction, including pavement widening and traffic-light installation, at the intersection of Salmon River Road and Military Turnpike Extension. Traffic will be controlled by flaggers as necessary.

ESSEX COUNTY

Route 9, Chesterfield: Traffic will be reduced to a single lane moving in alternating directions at Trout Pond Road. Work is expected to be completed in late October.

Route 22, Willsboro: Crews are backing up the shoulder and performing driveway work between Willsboro and Route 9. Traffic will be controlled by flaggers as necessary. Traffic will flow in a single lane in alternating directions from the Willsboro/Essex line to the Chesterfield/Willsboro line due to road construction that will occur until further notice.

Trumbulls Road, Jay: Crews are paving. Traffic will be controlled by flaggers.

Route 86, Wilmington: Traffic will flow in a single lane in alternating directions at the Wilmington/North Elba line. Crews are performing bridge work over the west branch of the Ausable River. Construction is expected to be completed in mid October. Crews have begun a resurfacing project between Wilmington and Lake Placid. Motorists should expect delays, which could be significant at times.

Old Military Road, Lake Placid: Crews are performing road construction. Traffic will be controlled by flaggers. Some portions of the road may also be closed.

Route 86, Ray Brook: Crews are backing up the shoulder and performing driveway work between Saranac Lake and Lake Placid. Traffic will be controlled by flaggers as necessary.

Interstate 87, Exit 32: Crews are performing road construction in both directions from Exit 32 to the Ausable/Chesterfield line. Traffic will be reduced to one lane in both directions.

Route 9N, Keene: Traffic will be reduced to a single lane in alternating directions at the intersection with Route 73 due to bridge construction. Traffic will be controlled by a temporary traffic signal.

Route 22, Ticonderoga: Crews are repairing the shoulder between Ticonderoga and the Essex/Washington line. Traffic will be controlled by flaggers as necessary.

FRANKLIN COUNTY

County Route 8, North Bangor: Crews are performing road construction. Traffic will be controlled by flaggers as necessary.

Route 30, St. Regis Falls: Crews are backing up the shoulders along the road between the intersections of routes 30 and 458 and Mountain Pond. Traffic will be controlled by flaggers.

Route 30, Lake Clear: Crews are resurfacing the road between Lake Clear and the fish hatchery. Traffic will be controlled by flaggers and pilot vehicles. Motorists should expect minor delays.

Route 30, Tupper Lake: Crews are resurfacing the road between the Hamilton/Franklin line and Tupper Lake. Traffic will be controlled by flaggers and pilot vehicles. Motorists should expect minor delays.
