Essex Fair features Milk Drinking Contest

WESTPORT — It’s Carload Day at the Essex County Fair.

Between 3 and 9 p.m., it costs a total $25 admission for everyone in a single vehicle, and that amount includes rides.  

The big show tonight is Terry Lee Goffee, with his Ultimate Johnny Cash Tribute. 

Daily shows and events include Jeff Boyer, the Mad Scientist; the Baby Animal Barn; Hot Dog Pig Races; Wild Experience Petting Zoo; Rain Garden Demonstrations; 4-H demonstrations/presentations; JD Winslow Equestrian Entertainment (two shows daily); Serendipity Spinners demonstrations in the Floral Hall; Sawdog, the Chainsaw Carver; and Cornell Cooperative Extension programs including toddler games.

Here are some upcoming highlights.

TODAY

Senior Citizen’s Day (fair goers older than 60 get a $2-off food coupon with $10 admission.

9 a.m.: 4-H Horse Show.

Noon: Midway opens.

2 p.m.: Milk Drinking Contest at the new cattle show ring.

4 p.m.:  American Red Cross disaster-preparedness presentation.

5:30 p.m.  Bicycle giveaway.

6 p.m. Dog Agility Demonstration and Street Legal Truck Pull.

FRIDAY

8 a.m.:  Essex County Fair Horse Show.

9:30 a.m.: County Fair Cattle Show.

10 a.m.:  Midway Opens.

Noon:  Bike Rodeo and  Bike Giveaway at the grandstand.

2 p.m.:  Pudding Eating Contest at the EMS Building.

5:15 p.m.: John Longware Memorial Pancake Supper in the Conservation Area.

7 p.m.:  Terry Lee Goffee, the Ultimate Johnny Cash Tribute.

Fireworks will follow.
