Blockbuster store to stay open

PLATTSBURGH — The Blockbuster video store on Smithfield Boulevard in the Town of Plattsburgh will apparently remain open for the foreseeable future.

A sign on the door Tuesday said, “Lease renewed. Reopen Thurs. or Fri. We’re back.”

That comes after a sign posted last week stated, “Dear friends, we regret to inform you that Saturday will be our last day as a rental store.”

The store stopped rentals Monday, and a liquidation sale was scheduled to divest inventory before the store was to close Sept. 20.

The bankrupt Blockbuster chain was acquired by Dish Network in 2011. Several stores were closed after that, but the Plattsburgh location survived those cuts.

Messages to Blockbuster’s corporate offices were not returned.

Looking for a good deal on a six-pack of beer? Try Charlotte. A haircut that won't burn a hole in your wallet? Harlingen, Texas, is your best bet. A trip to the movies? Hilo, Hawaii, is supposed to be nice this time of year.
