PLATTSBURGH — A preliminary investigation shows that a Plattsburgh City Police cruiser was hit by another vehicle that failed to yield to authorities as they responded to another accident.
The ordeal unfolded at about 12:15 p.m. Monday when City Police Sgt. Kevin Riley and Lt. Scott Beebie were en route to a rollover crash on Court Street.
As Riley drove east on Cornelia Street through the Beekman Street intersection, police said, his police car was T-boned by a southbound vehicle driven by James Trow, 84, of Plattsburgh.
The crash left the busy intersection closed for nearly four hours and sent Riley, Trow and his wife, Anna, 79, to CVPH Medical Center for precautionary evaluation.
All three were treated and released.
While investigation of the crash continued Tuesday, preliminary reports and witness accounts indicated that Mr. Trow failed to yield the right of way to the emergency vehicle.
Authorities said the police cruiser had its emergency lights and sirens activated at the time of the crash.
Mr. Trow was ticketed for failing to yield the right of way.
As for the accident the police cruiser had been responding to, authorities said Kharissa Danboise, 21, of Massena was headed west on Court Street, where her vehicle hit a parked car then flipped on its top.
Danboise was able to crawl through a window to escape and declined medical treatment.
She was later ticketed for moving from a lane unsafely.
