ALBANY — New York environmental officials are asking people to report instances of deer appearing sick or acting abnormally after the death of a deer in northern New York from an uncommon bacterial disease.
State Department of Environmental Conservation workers recently identified the disease in a deer from Warren County and they want to determine its prevalence in the herd. Deer with this disease may have a swollen head, neck or brisket. They may exhibit excessive drooling or nasal discharge.
Anyone who sees a white-tailed deer acting abnormally or who finds a dead deer that was not struck by a vehicle is asked to report it to the nearest DEC regional office or to a ranger.
This bacterial disease does not affect humans.
