City Council to meet tonight

PLATTSBURGH — The City of Plattsburgh Common Council will take action on several items at tonight's meeting.

Among them are approval of a contract with Triangle Electrical Systems Inc. for $119,934 for electrical services at the Water Pollution Control Plant, approval of a contract with Graymont Materials Inc. for $37,600 for supply of ready-mix concrete, and the appointment of Nicholas Seiden to the position of firefighter, effective July 5.

The meeting begins with a work session at 5 p.m., followed by the regular session at 5:30 p.m.

Both are open to the public.

Public Radio fund drive raises more than $1 million

ALBANY — WAMC Northeast Public Radio raised more than $1 million in a 10-day fund drive.

A total of $1,000,445 was promised from more than 8,000 pledges.

“We’re so grateful for the outpouring of support from all of our wonderful listeners,” President and CEO Alan Chartock said in a news release.

In addition to all the people who pledged during the on-air drive, hundreds of volunteers from all over the WAMC listening area answered phones, donating their time at the station’s Albany studios from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. every day.

Hundreds of regional businesses and organizations donated items, services and food to the drive. For a list of supporters, check http://www.wamc.org. Money raised during the fund drive will support a number of radio stations, including, in the North Country, WCEL, 91.9 FM, Plattsburgh; WANC, 103.9 FM, Ticonderoga; and 88.7 FM, Lake Placid.
