Students: Sept. 7, 2010

Kaplan University, Chicago, celebrated the graduation of its summer 2010 class during a ceremony on Aug. 7. The following local students were awarded degrees:

Craig Bosley of Mooers, a master of arts in teacher education; Barbie Craig of Peru, an associate of applied science in paralegal studies; Kari Kelsh-Foster of Champlain, a 2 + 2 bachelor in paralegal studies; and Tina Ouellette of Mineville, a 2 + 2 bachelor in criminal justice.

The following local residents were among students from Ithaca College who received degrees during the college's commencement ceremony held in May: Kelly Broadwell, daughter of Stephen and Susan Broadwell of Peru, a bachelor of arts degree; Matthew Smith, son of Alice Smith of Tupper Lake, bachelor of fine arts degree; Katelyn Walter, daughter of Paula Walter of North Bangor, bachelor of science degree; and Kimberly LaReau, daughter of Shirley LaReau of Peru, bachelor of arts degree.

Valerie N. Duquette of Chazy was inducted into Lambda Pi Eta at Susquehanna University, Selinsgrove, Pa., this spring. Duquette is a rising junior majoring in communications with an emphasis in journalism. She is a 2008 graduate of Beekmantown High School and the daughter of Basil R. Duquette III and Lynn Duquette.

Sarah Deeb of Plattsburgh, daughter of Michael and Pamela Deeb, achieved the dean's list with honors at The College at Brockport State University of New York. She is majoring in psychology with a 3.9 average for the fall and spring year.

Andrew Mack Nair, son of James Lacey of Schuyler Falls and Plattsburgh native Sue Slater Mack Nair of Niscayuna, is a 2008 University of Albany graduate. He has completed a science intensive pre-physician's assistant course of study at UVM. Mack Nair has been accepted in Duke University's physician assistant program and will start classes later this month.

Hannah E. Spinner of West Chazy was inducted into Pi Delta Phi French honor society at Susquehanna University.

Emmy Welch graduated from SUNY Cortland and was named to the dean's list. Welch is a physical education major, She is the daughter of Thomas and Tina Welch of Plattsburgh and a graduate of Plattsburgh High School.
