PLATTSBURGH — Several communities have scheduled special Labor Day events.
Here is what is happening today:
AUSABLE FORKS
Forks Labor Day celebration. 10 a.m. Holy Name Church and School. Parade on Palmer Street, AuSable Forks, concluding on Main Street at Holy Name Church and School. Followed by field day celebrations. Games, rides, food, bingo, dunking booth, pie wheel, National Guard climbing wall. Cash raffle at 6 p.m., first place $5,000, and four other chances for cash.
BEEKMANTOWN
March to Culver Hill. A group of re-enactors portraying British soldiers will leave their encampment near Guma's Restaurant in West Chazy and march to Culver Hill. Memorial will be held at 11 a.m. at the Culver Hill Memorial on Route 22, two miles north of the intersection with Route 374. This event is a new addition to the annual Battle of Plattsburgh celebration.
MOOERS
Annual book sale. 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Mooers Library, 2430 Route 11, on the library lawn. Bag sale, 1 to 2 p.m.
PLATTSBURGH
Labor Day Bash. Noon to 6 p.m. American Legion Post 20, Plattsburgh. Too Big for the Corner band. Steak bake and chicken, other food. Auction, 50/50 raffle, family games.
Commemoration at Halsey's Corners. 2:30 p.m. Re-enactors will help commemorate the British and American soldiers who faced each other in a deadly clash during the War of 1812. Wreath-laying ceremony will take place at the Halsey's Corner monument located off Tom Miller Road at the intersection with Halsey Court (North Beekman Street.) Re-enactors of the British soldiers who marched down the Old Beekmantown Road from Canada will be led by Craig Russell to engage Col. Wool's U.S. forces re-enacted by the Peru Militia led by John Dodge, with John Purdy as cannoneer. Part of the annual Battle of Plattsburgh Commemoration.
Towne Meeting concert. 7 to 9 p.m. Trinity Church, Plattsburgh. Part of the annual Battle of Plattsburgh Commemoration. Admission by button or at the door.
