Man indicted for allegedly fleeing from car crash

PLATTSBURGH — A Plattsburgh man has been indicted for allegedly crashing his car and then fleeing from the accident, leaving an assortment of drugs behind.

Leonard Knepp was arrested within an hour of the July 13 accident on Route 9, where he drove off the road and into a hydrant and nearby fence.

When authorities responded to the accident, Plattsburgh City Police said, Knepp had fled, prompting a massive manhunt across the city until he was located on the nearby U.S. Oval.

After he was taken into custody, police searched his car and allegedly found cocaine and marijuana inside.

Police have said the cocaine was packaged for sale but have not disclosed how much of the drug Knepp allegedly had.

Recently, a Clinton County grand jury indicted the 26-year-old on the original felony charge of criminal possession of a controlled substance and added a new charge of unlawful possession of marijuana.

In court for arraignment this week, Knepp pleaded not guilty to both charges.

He was sent back to Clinton County Jail on $10,000 cash bail or $20,000 bond and is due back in court in October for a conference.
