ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — Republican U.S. Senate candidate Bruce Blakeman is working to drum up support across New York state, claiming his party's upset win next door in Massachusetts on Tuesday gave his brand-new campaign a shot of adrenaline.
The little-known Long Island politician has been crisscrossing the state since he became an early Republican to officially announce a challenge to Democratic U.S. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand on Sunday. But he says Wednesday the stunning Senate win by Scott Brown in liberal Massachusetts shows that he could do the same thing in Democrat-heavy New York.
Blakeman told a group of Republicans gathered for breakfast at Albany's Orange Club that New Yorkers have the same frustration, anger and worries. He's heading to western New York later in the day.
