ELIZABETHTOWN — Monday was Supervisor Roby Politi's first day back to the Essex County Board of Supervisors since he began cancer treatment.
Politi (R-North Elba), the vice chair of the board, said people have joked about his hair loss following chemotherapy.
He said someone told him he looks like the Mini-Me villain from the "Austin Powers" films.
Supervisor Randy Preston (I-Wilmington) joked that Politi looks more like the Daddy Warbucks character from the "Orphan Annie" comic strip.
Politi also poked fun at Preston.
"The worst part about chemotherapy is the nightmares you have," Politi said. "I woke up this morning and thought I was the supervisor of Wilmington."
Politi thanked his colleagues for their support after his diagnosis last month.
"I appreciate it. It feels wonderful to be back. I hope I can be here on a regular basis. Your support and encouragement is what gets me out of bed."
Politi said he read the Press-Republican every morning while he was convalescing to find out what was going on.
