Don’t assail or impugn an identifiable individual or group. If you have that kind of criticism, sign your name and submit it as a Letter to the Editor. (There is some leeway on this in connection with public officials, but it is not unconditional.)

Don’t use profanity. This includes the term “tea bagger.”

Don’t be incendiary or tasteless. Those qualities are subjective, of course, and our editors will be the arbiters.

Do not identify yourself in the main content area of the article content form. Only by enforcing this rule can the moderators prevent unscrupulous commenters from falsely identifying themselves as someone they are not.

Don't type in all caps. It is considered the Internet equivalent of shouting.

In sports articles, do not criticize officiating.

Remember, moderators are not allowed to edit any article comments. If an article comment fails any of the above criteria, the entire comment will be deleted.

We monitor comments Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Approval of comments outside these times may be delayed.

Peru School Board working on budget


PERU — The Peru Central School Board is set for its first budget development workshop when it meets at 6 tonight in the community room of the High School.

An executive session involving the performance history of particular employees and collective negotiations will take place immediately following the 6 p.m. start. The board is slated to reconvene for public session business at about 7 p.m.

Besides the budget, the School Board will discuss the suggestions made in surveys that residents completed at the Budget Advisory Committee's Jan. 25 public forum, adopt a revised plan for shared decision making and talk about a Feb. 22 public forum on the budget.

The meetings are open to all.

Forum set on Westport Municipal Center


WESTPORT — After one more informational meeting on the proposed Westport Municipal Center project, the Town Council will decide whether to move forward with a bond issue to pay for the project.

The meeting is at 6 p.m. Wednesday in the Westport Town Hall.

"At this meeting, the proposed changes made to the project as a result of the last two informational meetings will be presented," Westport Supervisor Daniel Connell said.

"The time line and process for moving forward will be discussed and then questions and answers."

He said the committee working on this project requested that the full Town Council, School Board and Fire District Board of Commissioners attend and participate in the meeting.

"It is anticipated that within a short time of the Feb. 10 meeting, the town board, as the lead agency on this project, will be voting on the bond issue."

The new Municipal Center would house the town offices, school bus garage and fire department.

Clinton County Legislature agenda set


PLATTSBURGH — The Clinton County Legislature will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Legislative Chambers, 137 Margaret St. in Plattsburgh.

Among the resolutions to be acted on are a Community Trade Adjustment Assistance Program grant application, an appointment to the Clinton County Community Services Board and the four-year plan and annual implementation plan.

All meetings are open to the public.
