KEESEVILLE — A recent underage-drinking party landed a Keeseville man behind bars for rape and left a local homeowner facing a misdemeanor charge.
Keeseville-based State Police investigators said a 14-year-old girl was raped after she attended an underage party at Janet Taylor’s home last weekend.
Police said the girl came to them about the allegation after she spoke about it at school earlier this week.
After investigating the complaint, officials charged Christopher Burrell, 21, Tuesday afternoon with second-degree rape, a felony, and endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor.
Police said the rape charge was lodged because of the girl’s age.
Officials believe the rape happened after Burrell and the victim attended the party together.
When officials arrived to take Burrell into custody, police said, he became out of control and combative, which landed him an additional misdemeanor charge of resisting arrest.
During their ongoing investigation, police also arrested Taylor, 42, of Keeseville for allegedly providing the location and alcohol for the party.
She is now facing a single misdemeanor count of first-degree unlawfully dealing with a child and will appear in court at a later date to face the allegations.
Burrell was arraigned on the charges after his arrest and was later taken to Clinton County Jail.
He was no longer being held at the jail Wednesday morning and will reappear in Chesterfield Town Court at a later date to face the charges.
Police said additional arrests are likely.
