Two critical after Champlain crash

CHAMPLAIN -- Two men were critically injured in an afternoon car crash on Oak Street here.

Chazy-based State Police said Jennifer L. Lepore, 16, of Champlain, was driving the silver Ford Focus north on the road.

Lepore was distracted when her footwear fell off, police said. The teen lost control of the car and crashed into an embankment at about 35 miles per hour, totaling the car.

Passengers Casey Brown, 22, of Vermont, and Jeremy Berringer, 21, of Champlain, were listed in critical condition Saturday night.

Berringer was in the process of being transferred from CVPH Medical Center to Fletcher Allen Medical Center in Burlington just past 8 p.m. Saturday. Brown had already left CVPH but had not yet arrived in Burlington, according to the hospital there.

Police said Brown suffered injuries to his arm, leg and head. Berringer suffered a head injury.

Lepore complained of back pain and passenger Morgan Baker, 16, of Mooers, had a wrist injury.

The two were still being treated in the emergency room at CVPH just after 8 p.m.

Lepore was ticketed for failing to stay in a lane.
