Woman accused of failing to update her sex-offender registry

PLATTSBURGH — A local woman was jailed earlier this week after she allegedly failed to update her sex-offender registry.

According to the New York State Sex Offender Registry, Carrie B. Provost, 29, listed her current address as being in Keeseville, but authorities said she was recently found to be residing in West Chazy without having notified officials about her change of address.

Provost was convicted of raping a 13-year-old boy more than eight years ago and is required to update her sex-offender registry each year.

She also must notify officials in advance about any changes to her address but had allegedly failed to inform them about her recent move to Recor Road.

Provost, who served jail and probation time after her conviction, was arrested by Chazy-based State Police earlier this week and turned over to the Essex County Sheriff’s Office for arraignment on a felony warrant that accused her of failing to report a change of address.

Provost, who is classified as a Level 3 high-risk sex offender, was later taken to Essex County Jail on $1,000 cash bail or $2,000 bond, which she had not posted as of Thursday afternoon.
